Snoop Doggs’ Turning Point in Marriage

An interesting article popped up today highlighting Snoop Dogg’s marriage to Shante Taylor… Up until reading this, I figured Snoop was just a dope-smokin-playa.  Who doesn’t know at least one of his catchy beats?

Back to the main topic…

Check it out though – as high-school sweethearts, Snoop and Shante have now been married for 13 years! And that doesn’t even include their 5 years of dating before marriage!!! Not to say they haven’t had their low moments such as in 2004 when Snoop filed for divorce from wife Shante citing “irreconcilable differences”.

But – before the divorce went through their youngest daughter Cori was diagnosed with lupus, throwing the couple into another serious crisis. Thankfully, and as Snoop claims, their daughter’s health battle gave new light and reason to their failing relationship so they renewed their efforts at 7 years to “stay together forever” and went at it again…

I was trying to get a divorce, but I went back home and I fell back in love with my wife and kids. A lot of times you get cloudy. This music industry is a mother, man, and it’ll take your vision and blur it. But God is good, so I understand that I need my wife and my kids in my life — so I threw the papers away. I don’t want to get a divorce. So if you hear about a divorce, it’ll be my wife divorcing me; it won’t be me divorcing her. … And I made a mistake, so I’m trying to get back right.

During the troublesome years that followed Snoop and Shante regularly met with a marriage counsellor and Snoop even escaped to the studio once in a while to cry and regather himself. Then at ten years, they celebrated their marriage once again by renewing their vows in 2008 (Snoop’s idea).  So what’s the key to a lasting relationship according to Snoop?

Communication, and being able to fight and get back up. To have misunderstanding and [then] get some understanding.

I must say that I am impressed… Both of them deserve considerable notice for marking 13 years on June 14th. Shante – you’re a strong woman and I’m inspired by your resilience. Snoop – looks like you’ve become a wise and lucky man, your wife and children are honoured to have you by their side.
